This sculpture is from California State University Northridge on 18111 Nordhoff, Northridge, CA 91330. The sculpture is called Lauretta Wasserstein Sculpture Garden and I took it on September 11, 2018 9:59 a.m. This sculpture is dedicated to the deaths of those who died in the Northridge earthquake in 1994. This piece of cement belonged to a CSUN building that collapsed during the earthquake. The sculpture was named after a health science professor named Lauretta Wasserstein who funded many projects for the university and died of breast cancer. In the description of the sculpture there are names of people who helped build the university after the destruction of the earthquake. The sculpture is meant to commemorate the day of the earthquake so that people do not forget that impactful moment. Which in turn created unity and teamwork as everyone within the community came together to help in many ways after the earthquake. The broken structure identifies the affect of a destroyed community, to the effect of the united community. It is important for every resident in the community to remember this day because it is part of the history of Northridge. The sculpture represents modern day America because with the help of the federal, state, and the people; the city of Northridge was revived again. It shows that the people of a great city will come together when in crisis and in need.
